Yesterday around noon, the visitors at Circus Meester gathered round the ring expecting to witness the wondrous spectacles that were about to be performed, not least of which being famed lion handler Giuseppe Cagliari, whose daring and skilful exploits during the grand opening of the event were only marred by his stained boots. Though even more gruesome was the tragedy that unfolded before the audience when the director became unwell during his opening speech and, after letting out several harrowing cries, collapsed into a motionless heap.
There was much dismay among the crowd as well as the circus performers themselves. The authorities were soon notified of the incident, and the scene thoroughly evacuated.
Since detective Donker was unable to rule out malicious premeditation, an investigation has been started to interrogate suspects. More news on this case will follow as it develops.
